Systems / DevOps Engineer

We are looking for someone to join the SK tech team in an infrastructure and systems engineering role. The ideal candidate will be able to hit the ground running with their hands on a sprawling and diverse array of services and websites. Along with maintaining our existing production environment, you will also work closely with our hosting and development teams to improve site performance and reliability. You will also be responsible for desktop support.

Must haves

  • Highly experienced in all things Linux server administration, ideally Debian. This includes maintaining physical hardware, installing the OS and core services, and monitoring and improving system performance and stability.
  • Thoroughly proficient in a shell scripting language and comfortable with a Ruby Environment, including end-to-end delivery using web servers such as nginx, puma, and unicorn.
  • Well-versed in a configuration management system, ideally Puppet.
  • Have a strong understanding of common open-source virtualization platforms, ideally Openstack on KVM.
  • Have 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to handle desktop support for a team of around 30 in office and remote employees in an Apple environment.

Last week you might have...

  • Deployed a highly-available cluster of virtual machines set up with nginx, Unicorn, and Ruby for a new website.
  • Diagnosed a performance problem affecting a VM host and developed a plan to fix it.
  • Audited the infrastructure for single points of failure and addressed any issues you found.
  • Configured nightly backups of all critical servers, services, and databases.
  • Debugged and fixed a load balancer performance issue.

Position Overview:

  • Fulltime / 40 hours per week with ability to handle off hour emergency issues.
